Improved ammonia production reliability
During overhaul period at the gas chemical factory «Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat» LLC, the internal devices of the ammonia synthesis column were replaced.
Metal deterioration, as a result of ammonia synthesis processes occurring inside the column, made it impossible to operate the equipment at maximum loads. It was decided to temporarily reduce the operating load on raw materials and replace internal contact devices during overhaul of 2017.
Work on the modernization of the column was carried out jointly with representatives of the equipment supplier company, the Swiss company «CASALE S. A».

Internal contact devices supplied by a Swiss company have been operating for an average of 8–10 years, - says Nikolai Volkov, chief process engineer at the Office of chief technologist at «Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat» LLC. - New internal devices of the column are made of improved metal composition, with an increased thickness, which should ensure longer and uninterrupted operation of the column.
An important place among the new equipment is the internal heat exchanger. It has modified design, if necessary, this equipment can be dismantled without unloading the catalyst which was impossible in the previous design. 128.5 tons of the new catalyst were loaded into the ammonia synthesis column.
Commissioning works are underway at the facility, in the near future the column will be commissioned.
The ammonia synthesis column is the heart of the entire gas chemical factory of the company, it is here that one of the important ammonia production processes takes place. The column itself has been in operation since 1986, its equipment is periodically repaired, recent work was carried out in 2015.
